Last Days on Lady Maryland: Part 2

Day 8 - Maggie's Blog Entry

Yesterday was the first day we got to go on a whale watch. We were lucky enough to see not one, but 2 species of whales! The first whale we saw was Spoon, the humpback whale (identified by the fluke). We saw her a lot and got to see her tail 3 times as she dove. The next type of whale we saw was a finback whale and we got to see both the light and dark side of one of the whales. When we got back to Lady Maryland, we had a competition between Port and Starboard watch called the Schooner Olympics. In the end, both sides were rewarded with a root beer float to show how we worked together. Happy Fourth of July!

Day 8 - Kiara's Blog Entry

Hoy fuimos a ver bellenas.

Day 8 - Sofia's Blog Entry

David's Summary of the Trip

This trip was a was a very long and very exciting adventure. The students and the crew shared many fun and memorable experiences. Cold Spring Harbor was a memorable port because we got to walk to a museum and Greenport was also fun because we had ice cream. When we made it to Plymouth, we finally got to see whales, one of the many things we were looking forward to on this trip. Though I'm excited to go on land, I'm going to miss the boat, the crew and the experience.

Drawing sea animals on deck during the Buzzard's Bay crossing.

Enjoying dinner and chatting on deck once the seas calmed

Cleaning the aft (rear) cabin while docked in Plymouth, MA

Working hard on projects on deck

Whale watching!

Schooner Olympics!

Day 9 - Student Peesentations and Cleaning the Boat,

On our last morning on the boat, the students gave a presentation on their magazine and their articles for the entire crew. They all did a fantastic job, with some really amazing research and great insights. When the presentations were over, we gave the Lady Maryland one last major cleaning before it was time to leave. We had such a wonderful time with the crew, learning about sailing, estuaries, whales, and so much more over the last 9 days. We will certainly miss them!

Goodbye and thank you, Lady Maryland crew!!!
